Brutal Truth - Need to Control (1994)

Brutal Truth have been around for quite some time now. Hailed as grindcore elites, they have have formed their sound around traditional grindcore elements, like rapid chording, hi-gain guitar distortion and blastbeat-laden drum lines.

Guitarist Erik Burke and drummer Rich Hoak really know how to mesh together and create a spastic mix of brutal grind. They both demonstrate technical proficiency, but mix things up, varying the tempo of songs, instead of going all out on every track. Something alot of newer grind bands tend to ignore. Along with the samples, the vox on the album suit it perfectly, dual doses of cookie-monster growls and screeches, stand out in the mix. However, the bass on the album can only be heard in a few instances, like the guitar solos, but i guess that usually goes with grindcore albums.

I would definitely recommend this album to anyone looking for solid old-school grind reminiscent of Napalm Death. The catchy guitar hooks and raw production of the overall sound appeal to me, even though i do favour cleaner production.

Standout tracks: Collapse, Bite The Hand, Choice Of A New Generation
